How to....

Did you know that you can have fun with IELTS writing Task 1, describing a process?

You don't believe me? Complete the tasks below and see....

The following tasks are based on a 'how to....' website called the Videojug.

Tasks

1. First choose a section that you are interested in (spend no longer than 5mins).

2.Once you have selected the category, choose a video that is about 3 mins long.

3. After that watch the video without looking at the script. At the same time take notes on each step. However, don't pause the video.

4. The following step involves dictionary work. Watch the video again and listen for unknown vocabulary. When you hear a word you don't understand, pause the video, find the word in the script, which is below the video, and look up the word in an online dictionary (use http://www.macmillandictionary.com/, http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/ or http://oald8.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/dictionary/file)

5. Following that select 5 key words and write them in your vocabulary notebook together with a definition and a sample sentence.

6. Finally summarise the video by describing each step and use linkers for IELTS Task 1 Writing a process and publish your writing on www.petra73.blogspot.co.uk. The above instructions should help you with the linkers. How many examples of linkers for describing a process can you see?

4. Compare with your partners
5. This time while watching the video, note down words you don't understand - no pausing
